大部分中国学生在学英语时面临的最有挑战性的部分就是如何能够和朋友在不同的场景中交流不同的，内容多样而丰富的话题。“在玩中学”是我的美式口语课的一个特点。在课堂上通过很多角色扮演把学生带入去体验真实生活中的场景。他们会很自如的表达他们的想法，同时提出很多不同的问题，并且给出很多种答案。我也会通过“新闻时间”这个环节来要求学生来讲讲他们体验到的有趣的事情或者回答一些来自于倾听者的问题。
To be able to talk, communicate with people on a variety of topics in different circumstances seems to be the most difficult aspect of English learning for most Chinese students. Learning through playing is the centre of my ASE classes. I do lots of ‘role play’ in the class to put students in a real life situation. They are free to express their own ideas, come up with questions and answers. I also do “News Time” to ask students to talk about something they experienced that they think are interesting and answer questions from the audients.
